Postby mesteryoda » Fri Dec 04, 2009 1:03 am

As some of you might know by now we have a ventrilo server up and running, its only a 15 slot so far (need to see if its being used before i upgrade) its for everyone in the group so make yourself at home :)

ip: ventrilo.fpsoc.net / V76.DARKSTARLLC.COM
port: 3824
pw: 0044

server is in denmark so should be ideal for us in europe dont know about you guys in the US (yet, need feedback)

UPDATE BY BOOTC:
Sorry to hijack this a bit... :-P I've added an alias from ventrilo.fpsoc.net that points to the same place as the darkstarllc.com address, but should be easier to remember!

I've added a DNS alias to the original server address so that it's a bit easier to remember for people (see OP). Also, if we don't use more than 8 slots on Yoda's server I'm happy to set up our own private ventrilo server so that Yoda doesn't have to pay anymore. Just let me know if that's the case. Sadly I can't set up a server with more slots than 8.

You can get up to 17 slots if you use an older version of Ventrilo (2.3). Some versions even supports more than that, but I don't think we would need more than 17. I made the switch from 3.0.3 to 2.3.1 on my own private server to accomodate the growing number of users just a couple of weeks ago and it's working perfectly fine. You lose some neat admin features and the like (and there's no x64 version), but it's definitely not a show-stopper for me, using Windows 7 x64. I can upload the 2.3 server files if there is demand for it.

A version 2.3 Ventrilo client can be obtained by either looking for an old mirror or by downloading Ventinizor, one install containing four different Ventrilo x86 versions (2.1.4, 2.2, 2.3 and 3.0.1): http://www.idcation.com/?lang=en&X=news&id=140 VentriloMIX is another alternative, although I prefer Ventinizor since it has a neat backup feature to preserve your user settings between versions.

A bit more hassle, but it's free and does not violate the Flagship/Ventrilo EULA as far as I can tell (they just won't provide support for it) so it might be worth contemplating.
